SNOW!!!!

We really do have it on the ground! It is amazing that we really got snow and that it stuck and that it is more than a dusting. I think that we have about 7 to 8 inches at my house! We bundled up Blair and ourselves and took Blair and Hunter out to play. Blair wasn't too sure of what to think of it, but she didn't want to come back in the house. She didn't really play in the snow but she did wonder around a bit. Hunter has had a blast playing in the snow today! Hopefully it won't ice up too much tonight and we will be able to play in it some more tomorrow!

A few updates

Like I've said before, it looks as if I may have to do monthly blog updates instead of doing them on time. But I did just get my laptop back, so I may get better about doing more updates.

Words

It has been an exciting few months with Blair. Since limiting pacifier usage to sleep times, Blair's vocabulary has grown a lot. She says tons of words. It amazes me to listen to her. She loves to talk and she loves to name everything that she can say and she repeats them often so that we know that she knows the word. She will look at the light and say light several times. She loves to point to Nick's stuff and say Dada. My favorite thing is that she loves (most of the time) to say "Hi" and "Bye Bye" to every one. I love walking into Ashleigh's house or our house and I get greeted by "HI!" I know that I understand her words better than anyone else since they all don't totally sound correct, but I know in time they will become clearer. I'm working with her to start to say please ("peas") and thank you. When Blair tries to say a word and can't say it, she says "Nana" but at least she tries to say almost everything. I can't wait until she and I are having conversations with each other!

Cupcakes! Yummy!

Blair and I were lucky enough to get a few cupcakes from our across the street neighbors for their little girl, Katherine's 4th birthday. Blair loved the M&Ms and frosting, but really didn't want the cake part.

Teeth

The latest 4 teeth have finally cut through the gums. Blair now has 16 teeth and all we have left is her 2 year molars. Hopefully they will wait and come in in several months so that she has a break for awhile. I really hate teething. She gets thrown off her sleep and eating routines. Motrin is our best friend! It's really bad when Blair knows exactly where her Motrin is and then asks for more after she gets her dropperful!

Potty Training

Nick and I have both been thinking that Blair might be ready to start potty training. I wasn't going to worry about it until it started to get warmer, but Blair has been very interested in watching us go potty and has even wanted to sit on the potty while she is in the bath tub. So we figured that we would get the potty out of the attic and put it in the bathroom so that Blair could get used to it. It has been out for about a week and Blair has sat on it numerous times. Since I had a long weekend I figured that this would be a great time to try potty training. I bought Blair some Elmo panties and some Pullups too. Friday night when she and I got home from Ashleigh's house, we ate dinner and the panties went on. She had two accidents and really didn't seem to care that she was wet. I was expecting to have accidents. The first one was fine and I knew that she just needed to know that panties are not the same as diapers. After her first accident, we put on a new pair of panties and I asked her after about an hour if she needed to go. She of course, told me "no." I asked her about 30 minutes later and she told me "no" again and I decided to put her on the potty anyway. She pitched a fit about sitting on the potty this time. So after a few minutes of struggling to get her to sit, I just let her get up and put the panties back on. She then walked into the corner and peed. So after that, I put Pullups on her for the rest of the evening. The rest of the weekend, we just went back to diapers because when I asked if she needed to go potty on her big girl potty, or any time we got near the potty, she SCREAMED "no" at me. So this was our first failed attempt at potty training! We'll try again in a few months when she may be more ready.

My New Years Goals

I don't normally make New Years Resolutions, but I decided to make some goals for myself this year. I figured that if I call them goals, I may not break them as quickly! My goals for this year are do clean my dirty dishes every night and go to bed with a clean sink and kitchen as well as keep my dresser clean. I am going to start with just a few things and try to keep up with them so that next year I can make a few more and know that I can handle a few more than this year. Since I am a blog slacker, even though the post date on this is January 3rd, I am writing this on January 30th. Yeah - I'm a slacker! I have done really well with my goals so far. I think that there has only been one night so far that I didn't take care of the dishes. I have actually found that my evening goes a bit smoother and I am able to get in bed earlier if I take care of things right after dinner instead of waiting until Blair is in bed to get them done. Hopefully I will be able to continue with this forever!

New Years fun!

We had so much fun this year celebrating the new year. My Grandma and Aunt Patti made the 8 hour trip up to see us from Charleston, SC. It was so exciting to have them here! Nick and I have been talking about taking a trip to see Grandma, but with my work getting started, it probably won't happen until the summer sometime so it was a nice treat to have them come see us!

Nick had to work on New Years Eve so Blair and I went to Moms house and Nick came over when he got off of work. We all headed over to Mom's neighbors house. Glenn and Carole are an older couple that we really enjoy spending time with. They have a New Years Party every year and Nick and I have gone for the past few years. Since they are older, they have old friends. Since they are old, they like to party early so that they can go home and go to bed. So New Years is celebrated at 10PM instead of midnight. We had a blast catching up with people that we hadn't seen in a while. After our celebration, Nick, Blair and I headed home and Nick and I watched the ball drop. I felt like I was old... I was hanging out in sweats, drinking a beer, under the blanket, watching the ball drop then watching the Black Eyed Peas performance. Just a few years ago, we would have been out partying! Oh well!

We had a great time the rest of the weekend hanging out with Grandma and Patti. We did some shopping and Patti even got a tour of our office. We can’t wait to see Grandma and Patti again soon!
