Apple Picking

I wanted to go apple picking and thought that we did not have any orchards in the area. I was so happy when I found one on pickyourown.org. We headed down to Martin's Vineyard and Orchard on Knott's Island in North Carolina. It took about an hour to get down there. I really wasn't what I had pictured in my mind but it worked. We took Blair's wagon and it worked out great. She loves to just ride along and check everything out. Blair pointed out most of the apples that had fallen to the ground and were rotting. We got several bags of apples! The Orchard is on the water so if we go again, I will pack a lunch so we can eat it there. I'm sure that we will go again next year!

Big girl seat

At the end of July, we switched Blair from a rear facing car seat to a forward facing car seat. Blair loves to see everything. She points at everything while we are driving and she loves trucks. She also loves to dance to any kind of music. I love that I can see her now and know what she is doing.

First day back at work

I started my new position today as the Assistant Manager for Field Operations for the Virginia Beach US Census Bureau. We have 2 weeks of training in the office followed by weeks of getting the office set up and preparing for our first phases. It is pretty boring right now but I know that in a few months, I will be so busy that my day will fly by!

15 month check up

Nick had to take Blair to her check this time. It was my first day of work so I couldn't take her. The appointment was pretty stressful. Blair has learned what the doctor is and gets upset as soon as we get in the waiting room. Nick said that she cried the whole time so he could not even remember how my she weighed or how tall she is. I think she is about 22 pounds and about 33 inches. She got 2 shots and we have to go back and get her flu shot when the office gets them in. I think that I will be taking time off for the next check up at 18 months so that it will go smoother.

Meet Alley and Oden

My brother, Doug, and his girlfriend, Brittni, adopted two kittens several weeks ago. We are all so excited to have some new furry additions to the family. They gray kitten is Alley and the orange and white kitten is Oden. When I took Blair over for the first time to meet the kittens, we were a little scared about how she would be with them. She was so thrilled and excited to see kittens! She scared them a bit with her squealing, and a little squeezing. I think that mom and I told Blair to be gentle about a million times that day, but it really worked. She only squeezed Oden once and Alley was smart enough to keep her distance for a while. Blair decided that the kitten toys were fun to play with so she kept herself amused for a while by playing with their toys. By the end of the evening, Blair was loving on both of the kittens and she has done so well every other time we have gone over to see them.

Labor Day cookout

We hang out with a few of our neighbors in our court all of the time. We all want to meet more of our neighbors so we planned a cookout for our court. Nick got up really early to smoke a chicken and a few of the other neighbors were cooking early too. Everyone had their grills set up out in the front yards. We had a few games for everyone to play. Later in the afternoon, the neighbors started to come out. We were able to meet a few new neighbors as well as hang out with other friends and family. Cornhole was a big hit for the day along with Bocci ball and latter ball. We had a fantastic time and decided that this will be a Chilworth Court annual Labor day celebration.
